The Nuln Chronicle

Ok so it’s the end of April and what a month. I say that like world shattering events occurred to me personally which is of course not true. This month has merely been short and not as you might suppose game free. I refer here to the Stag Weekend that we had at the end of it when the soon to be bridegroom came to the fair city of Plymouth with an entourage of Little Goblins and ran a  4th Ed Dungeons and Dragons all nighter.

Those of you who know me well will be shocked to hear that I played properly and hardly cheated at all. In fact I think that it is safe to say that I said a fairly honest game and was on my best behaviour. Those who don’t know me well can believe what they want but suffice to say if I want to hit the living daylights out of every monster and foe the Gm puts against the party I make sure that I hit well.

This game was different I played honestly and as a result gained a character that could beat you to the draw every time and then promptly drop my weapon and shoot myself in the foot. We also enjoyed a great night out drinking to send the dear boy off in style. On this topic I would like to share a little anecdote if I may.

Imagine if you will that this group of drunken gamers decide that to send off one of their best friends to a life of wedded bliss they should go to a burlesque club. Now imagine if you will that the club has been hired for a birthday party and instead of burlesque there is a belly dancer and and Elvis impersonator, who, I should report, sounded very like the real thing and was very entertaining. Now imagine that one of these gamers less drunk than the rest entered the rest room where there were three drunk strangers one in a cubicle the other two carrying out a standing ovation. This is a genuine conversation I know I was there I heard it…

Drunk 1 “Is that the real Elvis?”

Drunk 2 (Seriously) “Yep thats the real Elvis!”

Drunk 1 (shouting to drunk 3) “You were right Steve it is the real Elvis”

Now if this doesn’t class as the story of the night I don’t know what does.

Anyway that was the last story of the night and it is for others to tell their favourite moments like the lady who said go away to someone they had allowed to grind against them for half and hour, or the beautiful South African and the Elvis Impersonator or the man who said to a witless girl “I have to apologise in advance…Whenever I here Elvis’s music I have to grind against someone… its nothing sexual” to which the trusting and silly child said “oh thats all right I don’t mind”.

Ok so back to the news.

The email went out today to advise that we are now preparing for a Conan game and inviting the players to create characters to use . I have to say that I have recently been trying to alter my GMing style to suit a more serious gaming outlook. This does not mean that the game will be in anyway altered to what has been played just that I will be less inclined to kill characters to amuse myself. I will also be better prepared for deviations by players from my carefully crafted script (more winged play less death to characters). In the spirit of my new style I have opened the creation process so while all characters have to be human, Conan does not allow for other races, there is no restriction to the type of human.

Dom and Jon V have created characters already and I have a notion what Andy would like so to the rest of you start designing.
