The Nuln Chronicle

August’s Editorial

August came in and I began to prepare, not for the Bank Holiday Games Fest, I know that is what you were expecting, but for my trip to the Edinburgh Festival. I and the love of my life, oh and Sarah, had booked a holiday to go to the Edinburgh Fringe to see some of thecomic talent that appears there every year.

This was our 15th wedding anniversary (and they Said it wouldn’t last)and the trip was our gift to each other (we have been promising each other that we would go for years).

On the journey up we stopped at Andy’s place in Newcastle and we had a great time, I was able to purchase some of the Kenzer & co Hackmaster stuff (needless to say that the new year will now be a Hackmaster filled one). We found out that Andy had been busy and had nothing prepared for his excellent Legacy game so we were intrigued as to what he was planning on running, he being the Guest GM at August’s game.

Whilst on our little sojourn to Andy’s we discovered a great card game which I recommend to the readers “Fluxx” - a simple absorbing fun game that takes minutes to learn. (I confess that at last years GENCON I did play it myself but I allowed everyone to make up their minds…Less said there the better I think).

After two nights in the lovely land of the Geordies Sarah and I got in to the big blue bus and travelled to the charming Scottish town of Linlithgow where we had booked a cabin for the week. The direct train route and distance from the Scottish capital making it an ideal location to allows us to get away from it all but still submerse our little toes in big city living. We arrived on the Saturday and, after a wash and brush up, went in to the city to see Bill Bailey (Never Mind The Buzzcocks). We found ourselves rolling in the aisles as he played the Emperors Star Wars Theme as a Scat and made a picture of the American President sing along to pop tunes. Needless to say that we had a great time and by the following friday, having been deafened by Bill Bailey with his Punk Combo, Beergut 100, on the Wednesday, we were ready to come home. Our faces still wet from tears of laughter shed all week at the many shows we went to see.

Saturday, after awaking, I remembered that the gamers were expecting a night of revellry themselves; with our GM, Andy, taking us down some rollicking roads of imagination battling monsters and the like. He did not disappoint. He told us that he had decided to run a one off of - Castles and Campaigns? a D&D spin off that saw us rambling toward a castle to win it back from the undead and report why it was lost to the original owner. There will be a full report of this on this site - Stay Tuned.

We all went off to our various accomodation, me to my little office to get some notes down from the game andas I saw them out I told them that if they were up for it we could meet up Sunday for Boards and Cards. They were more than happy to turn up and we settled down to a couple of hands of “Magic” which when finished left everyone wanting more.

More turned out to be an impromptu game of Warhammer, the roleplaying game with yours truely as the GM. Not withstanding the fact that I had not prepared anything I ran it anyway and, as with the previous night, we had a great time. I will admit that I borrowed a little from Andy (OK I had a little keep filled with undead) but the tone was more in line with the impromptu and (for those that know me really well) the Spademaster and her did not appear. More of that on the site soon.

So here it is - the first electronic editorial I hope that the rest of the Chronicle in its new electronic form wins with your approval, I can tell you I am really excited that we can build this together, I am even more excited that the Chronicle has its own Email Address, which you should have received when you received the Chronicle’s web page details.

Till next month happy gaming.
