Now the faithful may think why has the Gamesmaster, that fine upstanding keeper of the map and monster manual, keep putting song lyrics on his site.
Well the truth is that I have a monthly update after each game and then very little goes on the site until the following month.
I don’t want my readers to get bored or think that nothing will happen and not return to the Chronicle. This would be sad for me and may cause you all to miss those clues that I leave on here. Also if you listen to the music you may be able to try and pick up the emotions that are passing through me when I write these updates as the music is what I am listening to when I write.
Finally I believe that these are finely crafted tunes that hold meaning and resonance beyond the words that are in them. I accept that they are mostly pop tunes and to serious music fans may not be as great, in your eyes, as other music. But there are lines in these tracks and sounds in the tune that give me some of my ideas.
Good times Bad Times by Eddie Brickell - is my idea of a torch song (not necessarily what others think of as torch songs) I write a bar plot for a game the background band is playing this tune with a sultry alien singer giving a breathy rendition.
Michell Branch and Santana Game of Love is a street sound as you travel through a trading district the sound of my bazaars has this latin american rhythm and feel. Now you find yourself outside a cafe in the trading district and there is a street band jamming outside they play this tune and another sultry alien dances with her alien lover.
Not that all my aliens are female or sultry. I listen to a lot of music and have a lot of ideas. For Mays Gaming session I was listening to The Last to Know by Del Amitri I Aint Even Done With The Night by John Mellancamp and Young New Mexican Puppeteer by Tom Jones.
Add to this a few political thrillers on TV and you more or less have the whole idea for what I wanted to happen during the session.
