The Rising Shadow

Thunder rolled across the night sky and the rain pounded the pavement with a relentless ferocity. Pulling up the collar of his coat, Marcus steped out into the cold night air, and ran across the street to where the taxi sat waiting for him. Reaching for the door to the passenger seat, he paused briefly as something dark moved in the shadows further down the street. For a moment it was there, and then it was gone. Whatever it was. This was the problem with this part of London, the street lighting was poor at best, and many a night something would happen, unseen, unnoticed, until too late. 

Pulling open the car door, Marcus glanced across to where the taxi driver was sitting… or at least to where he should have been. The car engine was still running, the keys in the ignition, but no sign of the driver anywhere. It was then that Marcus noticed the blood stain on the drivers seat, and the smear drawn on the window. He had seen this mark before. They knew he was here… This was a warning…

Slaming the car door shut behind him, Marcus turned to walk down street. They would not get him. Not here, not now. For months now, since he stumbled upon them, they have watched and tormented him, but never before had they gone this far. Keeping an eye on the shadows Marcus started the long walk home, searching for streets more familiar, less dangerous. With a bit of luck he may be able to flag down a cab on the way back, before it was too late…

And in the shadows, out of reach of the streetlights a darkness watched, and waited… 

Overview  

The Rising Shadow will be a mini-campaign utilising the World of Darkness campaign setting from White Wolf. This will be run during the period 28th July to 05 August, with a view to continuing on at a later date.  

Please note, that though this will be a World of Darkness game, it will not include material from the main settings, such as Vampire the Requiem (VtR), Werewolf the Forsaken (WtF), or Mage the Awakening (MtA), at least not to begin with.   

The campaign will be utilising the following (player orientated) books: 

Ø       The World of Darkness (the core rule book) 

Ø       Second Sight (introducing psychics and low level magic for mortal characters)  

 

This may be expanded to include other sourcebooks such as Armoury (extra weapons and vehicles) and/or Skin Changers (shape shifers), but only if I get a chance to read them before the gaming week. 

I cannot give you too much detail as to the nature of the campaign at present except that:  

1) You will all be playing mortal characters, 

2) Such characters may have access to supernatural abilities such a psychic powers or “hedge” magic (as opposed to the “true” magic found within MtA), and 
3) Your character will need something that separates them from the general crowd.  

4) It will be based within the UK. Probably starting in London, with scope for travel to other parts of the UK as/when required.

Obviously, I cannot ask you guys to create characters right away, (you may not have ready access to all of the books, and may have a few queries on what is/is not acceptable), but thought I’d give you all an advanced heads up. This mini-campaign will have scope to be expanded at a later date enabling players to play characters using VtR, WtF, and/or MtA. (The idea is for all of us – myself included – to get to grips with the new WOD game system/setting before we consider adding in such supernaturals as Vampires, Werewolves, etc). However, whether we expand/continue this into a full-blown World of Darkness campaign depends on the wishes of the group as a whole, and availability of time/resources to do so.
